SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

THREE PERSONS INJURED. LORRY AND MOTOR-CYCLE. COLLISION IN KBYBER PASS. A serious accident occurred in Kbyber Pass Road shortly before eight o'clock last evening, a motor-hicycle and sidecar colliding with a motor-lorry. Three persons, who were riding on the motorbicycle and side-car, were admitted to the hospital. Their names, and the nature of the injuries sustained by them, are as follow :— Miss Elsie Carbines, of 34, Grosvenor Street, Grey Lynn, fractured skull condition serious. Mr. Robert Nevfll Vickerman, of 8, Station Terrace, Eemuera, fractured jaw and broken leg. Miss Coralie Hunter, shock, and slight injuries to leg. The motor-lorry was driven by the owner, Mr. Ernest Bedford, of Station Road ? Remuera. He was not injuredIt is not known whether there were any actual eye-witnesses of the accident. According to Mr. Bedford, he was driving along Khyber Pass Road in the direction of Newmarket, and started to turn to the right into Abbotsford Street. It was just about dusk, and as far as he could see the road was clear of traffic. He had got as far as the second set of tram rails when suddenly he saw a motorbicycle twenty or thirty yards away coming towards him at a fast pace. He immediately reversed his engine and swerved into a position practically parallel with the tram rails and footpath. He states that he did this in order to allow the motor-cycle to run past on the tramlines. The motor-bicycle, however, collided with him " head on," the impact being so severe that an iron rod twv, inches thick, on the front of the lorry, was bent right in. The riders on the motor-bicycle were violently thrown out. One lady was picked up near the back wheel of the lorry, and the other one to the side at the front, while Mr. Vickerman was entangled in the wreckage of the motorbicycle. The three victims were conveyed to the hospital in motor-cars. Miss Carbines is a well-known motorcyclist, and it does not seem to be established whether she or Mr. Vickerman was riding the motor-bicvcle. Mr. Vickerman is a son of Mr. E. R. Vickerman, of Station Terrace, Remuera, and is emploved bv Chandler and Company, Limited. Miss Hunter is believed to have arrived in Auckland from Kaitaia some days ago in order to meet her father, Lieutenant Hunter, who is expected to arrive here from England to-day. The motor-bicycle was badly damaged, the side-car being completely wrecked. At an early hour this morning the sufferers were reported to be in practically | the same condition as when admitted.
