SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES.

The half-yearly musical examinations in connection, with the Auckland University College were completed yesterday. The examiners, Professor W. E. Thomas, Mus. Doc., and Mr. S. Kenneth Phillips. Mus.! Bac.. A.R.A.M., report that candidates for the diplomas did not seem to recognise the standard required; hence the number of failures. when the technique was adequate the conception of. the pieces was wanting. There was - a distinct falling off in the knowledge of the form of music, only a surface knowledge being generally shown. The J!}? 16 ? peculiar to Buck. Beethoven and Chopin were not sufficiently realißod by the majority of the performer?.. The Bight-loading was generally weak, and scale and arpeggio work w*s not up to the usual , standard.
