MOUNT ROSKILL ROAD BOARD.

The Mount Roskill Road Board met the other evening. Present: Messrs. G. E, Tansley (chairman), J. Peet, E. J. Herd, S. Scarborough, H. Luke, and J. J. Preston.

The chairman stated that the new waterworks plant had. cost more than was anticipated when the loan was first obtained. He had therefore applied for the 10 per cent, extra '(about £5200) allowed by the Act. This amount, together with, that in hand, would be used to the best advantage. The chairman's action was approved.

Mention was also-made of the fact that the new pump had been installed, and was in working order, but the engineer did not take it over until the board was satisfied that this was so. It was decided to call on the suppliers of the pump and the engineer to complete the installation at once, so that the pump could be put into commission immediately. The board declined "a request from Mr. Baeley to refund to him a portion of the cost of laying a water-pipe to his residence from Liverpool Street. Mr. Bagley, who waited on the board in support of his claim, stated that when h laid the pipe some years ago he was told by the then Road Board that a refund would be made to him if any other property was connected with the same pipe. The board had to decline, because there was no documentary evidence of such promise, and the auditor would not pass any such espenditure-

The board's solicitors advised that the' board had power to compel propertyowners to clear all obstructions from watercourses. It was resolved to notify the trustees of the Methodist Mission that they must comply with the law and clear a watercourse through their property. The board further decided to put a newculvert in the road in conjunction with the clearing of the watercourse. It js-as agreed that any further action taken by the board in seeking to obtain an inmrovenient in the tram service throusrh the district should be in conjunction with Onehunga and One-tree Hill Road Board.
