A meeting of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association will be held to-night, when, the question of association courts will be discussed. Ihe site ot tie proposed courts is at the end of Stanley Street, in the Domain area. This ground is at present, and has been for many years, unused, and 13 the repository of *u descriptions ot rubbish. In 1914 the association negotiated with the City Council regarding a lease of the ground, but the rental hxed by the council was prohibitive and the scheme was dropped. An effort is now being made to reopen the matter, and the council has already been approached with a request tor a lease at a moderate rental. The association will undertake to form the courts and erect a suitable pavilion. The council will thus be put to no expense, while an ugly, unattractive and unproductive piece ot ground will bo put to good use and the entrance to the i)oraam beautified. The membership list of all the tennis clnbs in Auckland is now full, and if the association is granted a lease many players who are now unable to gain entry to a club will be enabled to get their full measure of tennis. The council will obtain revenue from ground which, so far has yielded nothing. The various other sportssuch as cricket, football and hockey—are already well catered for, but the question of providing tennis courts appears to have been in the past, and it is considered high time the matter was remedied. Tennis is becoming increasingly popular, not only in this country but ail over the world, and people are beginning to realise that no other game provides such excellent, exercise with the minimum of expense and with the time devoted to it. It does not matter whether the player bo a champion or merely a beginner; both dorive the same amount of enjoyment and exercise from the game. It is to be sincerely hoped that the counail will meet the association in the matter, and that by next season the courts wi£l be ntirins completion. Messrs. E. Hickson and H. Henderson, have been appointed joint honorary secretaries of the handicap tournament the association will hold on the hemuera courts at Christmas. The following are the events on the programme:—Men's handicap singles 12 grades), ladies' handicap singles, men's handicap doubles, ladies' handicap doubles, combined handicap doubles. It is understood that the Tarana&i Association is sending a team to play Auckland during February or March next, but so f*t no official advice has been received from tho Taranaki Association; nor. of course, are particulars of the team available. The following details regarding the British Davis Cup team and the tournament played at Kuxlingham are taken from the English pr<"33: — The Selection Committee has mated Lieutenant-Colonel Kingßcote, M.C., Mr. A. H. Lowe and Mr. A. C. Beamish to play in the challenge round of the Davis Cup at Sydney this autumn against the holders, Australasia. It looks as if ail idea of

Two new tournaments of distinction are finishing this summer season, memorable as it is. Hurlingham, pioneer club of polo, with its wonderful old English halls and gardens and trees, concluded a very pitasant meeting. The Royal Flying Club also holds it« first tournament. Hurlingham plays on grass, Hendon plays on hard courts. The finals at Hurlingham were quite interesting and noticeable for the good display made by and Const. The latter beat Ritchie rri the semi-final, and :n 'he. final was beaten by the Roumanian. Mishu has never played better; it takes doing to beat Doust with the loss of only four games. It was Mishu's fine driving that did it; it was too Quick even for so agile. a volleyer as Doust; some of tie side-lino drives were superb. He seemed to aim at the lines, and he generally hit them. Doust and McN~ir had a creditable victory in the doubles over the brother? Dav son. Doust was übiquitous. His volleying here and in the mixed double match W3l of his best. With Mr 3. McNaJr, one r-l our best lady volleyers, he beat Bitch » and Mrs- O'Neill easily The latter pair used the old-fashioned formation, with tho ladv back- Mrs. McN'aiv ems-shed very brilliantly.
