THE SALE OF POISONS.
♦ QUESTION OF REGISTRATION. A case of interest to chemists and their assistants was argued in the Police Court yesterday, when Mr. Selwyn Mays, on behalf of the registrar of poisons, prosecuted two city chemist's assistants for having sold poison without being registered. He contended that though qualified chemists, the defendants were nob lawfully entitled to dispense poisons with- , out holding a license from the registrar, j Mr. Prendergast, for the defence, submitted that anyone could register himself and thereby constitute! himself a lawful vendor of poisons. SEven the bottlewasher in a chemist's establishment, if registered, could sell arsenic. That, he submitted, would not be in the interests of public safety. ,< The magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, decided in favour of the defendants, and dismissed both informations. Mr. Mays then intimated that he would lodge an appeal.
