HOSPITAL CHARGES. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WAIHI. Saturday., A deputation from the local friendly societies waited on the Hospital Board at its monthly meeting and protested againct the board's decision to increase tho hospital fees to lodge members from 14s to 28s weekly for adults, and from 7s to 14s for children. It was pointed out by the chairman of the board that tho cost of the hospital maintenance had so increased of late years that an increase in patients' fees was compulsory if the income was to meet expenditure. Ho suggested a compromise of 3s a day all round. The friendly societies are considering the offer.
The Waihi Hospital Board decided to request Mr. W. P. Gauvain, acting-super-intendent of the Waihi Cold Mininnr Company, to furnish an estimate of thu cost of installing electricity at the District Hospital for lighting and heating purposes. If a scheme is adopted tlio power will come from the Horahora plant. New arrivals continue to come into Waihi, and from forty to fifty fresh hands have lately been given employment by the Waihi and Grand Junction Mining Companies.
