BOROUGH COUNCILS.
TAKAPUNA
The Takapuna Borough Council met last evening. The Mayor, Mr. W. Blomfield. presided, and there were also present "Messrs. T. B. Arthur. 11. Biss, G. Creamer. E. Davies, A. Fulljames, and F. W. Better.
Leave of absence for four months was e-ranted to Mr. Ft, Cunningham, a member of the council. who is visiting America. Mr. Retter was appointed to till the temporary vacancies on committees quo tn Mr. Cunningham's absence. In reply to the council's complaint of the state of the. shelter shed on the wharf and a request for a new shelter shed, the Harbour Board wrote stating that the Tramway Company had control of the shed, and that the request for a. newbuilding had been referred to the board it. committee- It was decided to call the attention of the Tramway Company to the state of the shed and to make inquiries .-is to whether the Harbour Board erected sheds on other wharves, with a view to ai;ain approaching the board in reference tj the matter.
Notification that a loan of £5000 had 1 "pii granted was received from the State Advances Department. A special resolution was passed altering the names of certain street? in the borough as follows : -Hansen Road to Hart Road. Reach Avenue to Sanders Avenue, White's Hill to Forrest Hill Road. Lake Town Road to Jellieoe Road, and Marine Parade to Pierce Road. BIRKENHEAD. The Birkenhead Borough Council met last evening. Present : The Mayor. Mr. J. P. McPhail. Messrs. A. Hadrield. R. Taylor, K. C Wa'ton. A. E. Wood. R. Webb. H. Boardman, P. C. Backhouse, and J. 11. McPhail.
The Mayor stated that the steam road roller purchased had been delivered. The formation and metalling in Harbour View PoaJ and Brassey Road were nearly competed. Blinding with shell would shortly be put in hand. The report of the recent conference of the Birkenhead and Northcote Councils was adopted, including a recommendation to apply for a- Government grant of, £500 toward the reclamation of Little Shoal Bay Reserve.
The State Advances Department intimated that a loan of £10,000 had been gi anted. The Mayor said that in view of the rate of interest being paid by many ether local bodies the Birkenhead Council had cause for congratulation on securing the money at 41, per cent., which meant a saving of £125 per annum for the next 2fc years, compared with what it was anticipated would be necessary to pay when the £15,000 loan poll was carried.
