MISSING PEACE POEM.
Had the Poet Laureate, up to the profeeut, written any Peace ode. or any other poem commemorative of Britain's part in the war, asked Mr. Bottomley in. the House of Commons recently. Mr. Bonar Law said that, so far as he knew, the answer was in the negative. Mr. Bottomley: Is the right hon. gentleman aware that a portion of the remuner alien of the Poet Laureate consists of a certain cash payment in lieu of a supply of Cana-y wine—(laughter)— and has the Government considered the paying of that part of the salary in kind, on the off chance of his getting inspiration? (Laughter.) '
Mr. Bonar Law: Before adopting that (suggestion I should have to ask the Chancellor which would coat the country the mwt. (Laughter.) The Poet Laureate is Mr. Robert Bridges, M.A., of Oxford, who was appointed in 1913.
