FINANCIAL CO-OPERATION.
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 5.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 20.
The New York Times states that at the opening of the International Trade Conference at Atlantic City the delegates were informed that the topics for discussion will be credits, finance, chemicals, coal, foodstuffs, metals, petroleum, textiles, shipping, and the establishment of a permanent international business men's organisation. Mr. Alfred Bedford, president of the Standard Oil Company, in a speech, said: "We are informed that because of high prices and the high rate of exchange prevailing inthe United States, it may be necessary for some countries to buy elsewhere, but the questions of credits and exchange are essentially bankers' questions. We wish you to consider them with our bankers, who earnestly desire to solve the present complicated situation. One of the methods whereby the financial cooperation of Europe and America can be realised in the future is for Americans to invest money in European enterprises." s
