DISCOVERY ON STEAMER

GISBOKNE. Tuesday

The manager of the Richardson Steamship Company, Mi'. McLeay. reports that the steamer Awaho'i took from Auckland 465 cases of benzine, and when the last (if these were being unloaded yesterday at the bottom of the hold a paper box of wax vestas was found wedged in between two cases.

Mr. McLeay states fortunately the vessel had an exceptionally smooth passage. Had .-he been labouring ai d the cargo moving it is quite possible there would have been another Tainui disaster.
