.PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
TAUMARUNUI, Monday.
The body of the boy Ernest Brightwell, aged seven years, who had been missing since Tuesday afternoon last, was found by Mr. William Meares yesterday morning at a spot about a-quart-er of a mile below the junction of the Wanganui and Ongame Ravers. An inquest was held last night, and the coroner returned a verdict of found drowned.
On Tuesday afternoon last the father of the boy purchased some clothing in a shop at Taumarunui, and gave a parcel to his son, telling him to run on and catch tin to his mother, who was on her way home across the Wanganui River. On reaching home the father discovered that his son "had not overtaken his mother, and was missing. He thereupon informed the police, who made a thorough search of the town and river-bank, but found no trace of the lad till Wednesday morning, when the parcel of clothing was found on Winter's Island, near the river edge on the side Dear the second swing bridge.
