.«. . BANK MANAGER'S DEPARTURE. [BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAEROA, Monday. The Hauraki Agricultural and Pastoral Association held a smoke concert in the Criterion Hotel on Saturday evening, by way of farewell to Mr. A. H. Wilson, who is leaving P aero a, and to welcome Mr. J. Reid, who recently returned from active service. Other returned soldiers present were :Messrs. Robeon, Wilson, and Jones. There was a good attendance of members of the association. Mr. Wilson, who for the past eight years has been manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Paeroa, has been transferred to Thames, where he will act in the same capacity in the branch of the bank there. Mr. I'. R. Hubbard, president of the association, acted as chairman. He referred to the enthusiastic interest that Mr. Wilson had always taken in the affairs of the society of which he had been president for a term. Mr. Wilson suitably replied. Replying to the toast of the " Local Bodies," the Mayor of Paeroa, Mr. P. E. Brenan, expressed his confidence in the future of the town district. He believed that a new cou».ty would soon be formed. taking hi Netherton. He referred to the necessity for good roads, and to the benefits which the community gained from them.

Mr. Taylor also spoke of the value of good roads, and recommended members present to read the leading article in that day's Herald, which emphasised the importance of building roads of a permanent nature.

Mr. W. J. Towers proposed the toast of the farming industry. Replying to the toast of the " Returned Soldiers," Lieutenant-Colonel Porrit referred to the loyalty of the farming community, and said that during the volunteering period of the late war the recruiting record from the Hauraki district was second to none in New Zealand.

The chairman proposed that Mr. Wilson be made a life member of the association.. The motion was carried.
