FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA.

FRENCHMAN'S PROGRESS.

START FOR SALONIKA.

(Received 9 p.m.)

United Service. ROME. Oct. 18. Lieutenant Poulet, the French aviator, who is attempting to fly to Australia, has left for Salonika. A DARING UNDERTAKING. AMERICAN ADMIRATION. Australian, and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 10 p.m.) LONDON, Oct- 17. The New York Times, in an editorial comment on the projected flight to Australia-, says that it seems that it is the habit o'f the British Government to encourage daring always. Its approval of the aeroplane race from England to the antipodes is a case in point. Success may crown the flight, but the perils along some parts of the route are so great that a man must be a visionary to face them. Columbus did not take a tenth of the risks that these bold air pioneers must face. " Luck be with them. They will be throwing a dice with death."

ROME. Oct. 18.
