Mr. C. A. McCurdy, Parliamentary Secretary to the Food Ministry, addressing a food conference, said that the Government was strenuously attacking high prices. During the few weeks since the Profiteering Act bad been passed 1600 local tribunals had been established, 1350 prosecutions had taken place, 1320 convictions had been recorded, and fines amounting to £7060 had been imposed. Several important retail organisations, including grocers and drapers, were voluntarily developing schemes by which prices would be reduced and profiteers eliminated. ADVANCE IN SEPTEMBER.
