NAVAL DEPOT AT WELLINGTON

Proposals regarding the training of boys for the navy are made by Lord .fellicoe in hit- report to the Government.

'■ In order to provide accommodation for the training of boys and stokers on entry." says the report, "' it is recommended that H..M.S. Philomel should be fitted out as a stationary training establishment, accommodation being provided lor the following, in addition to the instructional and ship's staff, viz., 100 to T2O boys. 50 stokers. For purposes of I: .lining the Philomel should be provided with an armament comprising one &in B.L bun, Mink VII. or -later; one 4in y.K. gun. Mark IV. or V. ; two 12pouiioer QK. guns. Two of the guns to be. lit ted with laying teachers, and a 6in, ,-i 4in, and 12 pounder loader to be provided. One modern-type searchlight also to be installed. " Wellington is recommended as being the mo.-t suitable and central port it ■?.';;. Ii the Philomel should be stationed, while the officers an- employed on duties .it the Navy Office.
