SOLDIERS' DISPUTE.
SETTLEMENT ANNOUNCED. \\ It j > AUCKLAND V. HEADQUARTERS \\ [lit TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] ! WELLINGTON, Friday. The dispute between the Auckland district committee and the New Zealand body has been settled. When the matter was mentioned at today's sitting of the conference the presi- ' dent, Dr. Boxer, was asked to report to the conference the result of the deliberations of the executive -which met in Wellington during the week. The conference went, into committee to discuss the matter. On resumption in open meeting it was reported that the following motion had been passed in committee:—''That the ! verbal report by the president on the ' Auckland situation be adopted, and that ' this conference learns with gratification that the dispute between the Auckland district committee and the executive of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association has been settled, and this conference thanks the members of the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association and the Dominion executive who have formed the committee, for bringing a difficult situation to a satisfactory conclusion." '. i
I The dispute arose out of the control I of organisation funds. At the last con- ' ference a new system of organisation was ! brought into operation, under which dis- ; trict committees were appointed and ; 'granted capitation and 2s a member. The i Dominion Executive to which this money j was forwarded, did not send it to the ! ; committee, but opened an account in its | 1 own name, and nominated the members j of the committee who should operate upon j it. The Auckland committee refused to , use the money on these terms, contend- [ ing that headquarters was acting illegally i in retaining control of the money. This view was supported by a leading bar- j rister, and eventually a writ for about £1000 was issued by the Auckland dis- 1 trict committee and the Auckland As- ! ' sociation against the New Zealand bod}.! I As northern delegates were authorised to : I proceed with legal action unless head- ' i quarters gave way it would appear that 1 the northern associations have carried the I j day. __ ! j t
