SOLDIER TAXI-DRIVERS.

PROTEST BY OWNERS' EXECUTIVE. The remarks made at the iDeeCm" of the City Council on Thursday, regarding the complaint of returned soldier taxi-drivers, that they were being prevented from using the telephones on certain stands, has drawn & statement in reply from the Executive Committee of the Auckland Taxi-owners' Association. The committee states that it has addressed a letter to the City Council, expressing surprise that the council should adopt the resolution on the strength of certain allegations made by the secretary of the Returned Soldiers' Association, without taking steps to verify those allegations by submitting a copy of them to the Taxi owners' Association, and affording them an opportunity to reply. The committee states thf.t it has not refused admission to any returned soldier, nor to any other bona fide applicant of good character, and not of foreign nationality.
