BAY OF ISLANDS CONTEST. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANGAREI. Friday The Independent Liberal candidate, Mr. St. Clair Joonneaux, addressed a large meeting at Kawakawa last night. The chair was taken by Mr. H. C. Blundeli. Dealing with the question, of party. Mr. Jounneaux declared that he -would regard Sir Joseph Ward as his leader, and in the main he accepted Sir Joseph Ward's platform. He advocated the immediate opening up of roads, railways, and harbours, so that settlers now on the land and those who wished to become settlers need not be penalised by isolation in back blocks. On the question of industrial trouble, Mr. Jounneaux declared that as a member of the Fanners' Union he had advocated round-table conferences between capital and labour, and he believed the solution of industrial troubles lay in that direction. MANUKAU. Mr, C. E. Major, ex-member for Ha•wera, will be a candidate tor Manukan m the Opposition interest. WAITOMO. Mr. C. K. Wilson, ex-member for Taumarmrna, is standing for Waitomo as an 1 Independent. Mr. F. 1. Broom is » i Labour candidate for the same seat. KAIAPOI CAMPAIGN.
