ESCAPE FROM A TRAIN. SIX AUSTRALIAN PRISONERS ESCORT OVERPOWERED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. CKeod- 2 BJnO LONDON, OcV IS. Sue Australian military prisoners, who were being taken to Winchester prison from France under a guard, of three men, escaped from a moving train near Basingstoke. When the train was nearing Basingstoke the Australians suddenly attacked the guard, handcuffed them and wound puttees round their heads. As the train slowed down at Micheldever, the Australians jumped off and disappeared in the darkness. The miseries of the escort were not relieved until Winchester was reached. When discovered the men v/ere hardly able to speak or move. The military police instituted a search by motor-car for the Australians, but they have not yet been recsiptnred.
