Oct. 15. A War Office communique states that General Denikin, by the capture of Orel, has secured another important prize, which marks a further great stride towards Moscow. Orel is a valuable railway junction, where the main line from Moscow to Kharkoff crosses the Riga-Tsaritsin railway line. , General Denikin reports that he captured several thousand prisoners, i two batteries and an enormous quanI tity of military booty at Orel.

Reuter's correspondent states that the Bolsheviks have mobilised the population for the defence of Tula, which is 120 miles south by rail from Moscow. The rapidity of General Denikin's operations has greatly alarmed the Soviet press. All former land owners and civil officials in Petrograd and Moscow are being registered. A plot was discovered, implicating 800 officers, to seize the wireless station at Moscow, to announce the fall of tho Soviet Government, and to organise an armed insurrection of the troops.

DENTIN'S WELCOME. l GREETED AS DELIVERER. A. and N.Z. LONDON". Oct. 15. General Denikin reports that after many days of fierce fighting he captured Orel, 200 miles south of Moscow. When he entered the city the people fell weeping on their knees, and exclaimed "'Christ is risen." The troops were received with enthusiasm. Several thousands of prisoners were taken, in addition to two batteries of artillery and enormous booty. General Denikin has occupied the important station of Talovaya, in the Orel region, taking 9000 prisoners and capturing 20 big guns. ■ General Denikin's forces on the Don cut up the Bolshevik forces at Ust Medvieditzkawa, flinging them back beyond Mevyfutchka, and taking 1500 prisoners. Eleven hundred prisoners were taken on the Upper Don, where a battery with gunners was captured and turned against the Reds. General Konovaloff's Don Cossacks in the Krivutchy region dispersed a Bolshevik division, taking 3000 prisoners and -capturing two heavy and three smaller guns.
