Hampshire. The Waitemata County Council wrote asking the boa.*i to join with th<» county in repairing Portage Road, a boundary road, at a total tost of £50. The clerk wat instructed to inspect the road and report. It was resolved to inquire what amount of electric power and approximate number of lights would he required in the district, n;<d ascertain if electricity could be obtained from the City Council An application on behalf of two butch rs , for permission to drive fat stock on a ! more direct route to their slaughterhouses j than th<» stock rwrte recently gazetted was refusedMr. C. J. Parr, M.P.. wrote st>gg*isting that a conference of local bodies and the Northern Suburban Railway League be held to discuss concerted action to obtain ;i mora speedy railway service and more trains. He also suggested a joint dernitaiiin to th» Minister for Railways, Mr. W. F. Massey, on his next visit to Auckland. Messrs. Nesbitt ar.d Gardner were ' appointed to represent the board at any j conference which may be held, their j .-oecial duty being to formulate a timetable to suit the requirements of Avondale. I It. was resolved to carry out formation work on Wharf Road at an estimated coet j of £60. Considerable discussion took place regaxdina the question of concrete versus tar macadam roads. The matter arose through Mr. Morgan inquiring when the experiment of placing a couple of chains of concretinc on the existing formation on the Great North Road" was to be made. This elicited th« reply that the work would be put in hand as soon as the weather was suitable for diverting the traffic to the aides.
