CONGRESS IN DUNEDIN. [BY TELEOKAI'H. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, Thursday. Hip biennial congress of the United Furniture Trades Federation of New Zealand opened yesterday. Delegates were present from Wellington, ChrJetchurch, and Dtmedin. A remit, asking the congress that as the cost of living in Wellington was higher than elsewhere, the Wellington union be allowed to approach the Court for a higher award than had been asked in other districts, was rejected an being opposed to the principles of the national award. The congress decided to use the strength of the federation to obtain a Dominion award for wicker-workers. It was decided to ask the Government for a heavier duty on wicker furniture and basket ware in order to foster this indus. try in New Zealand.
