Builders' labourers, in order to enforce their demand for a forty-hour week, have decided not to work on Saturdays, and have submitted a log to employers, cutting out Saturday work. THE PRICE 07 BREAD. ADVANCE IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA. (Reed. 7.30 p.m.) ADELAIDE, Oct 4. The price of bread has advanced a halfpenny. NEW SOUTH WALES DROUGHT. WORST FOR FORTY YEARS. SYDNEY, Oct. 4. The Sydney Morning Herald states that three-quarters of the State is in the throes of the worst drought experienced for 40 year*, and suggests that the Government assist by importing large stocks of fodder from New Zealand. It gives an instance of a station in the North where recently owners cut the throats of 8000 good wethers to save them from dyintr of starvation. The paper estimates that the losses to date amount to 20 per cent, of the total stork.
