GASES DURING SEPTEMBER. COMPARISONS WITH AUGUST. The total number of cases of notifiable diseases, exclusive of influenza, notified in- the Auckland health district during September, •was 159, a decrease of one, as compared with the previous month. > There were 45 cases of pneumonia in September, as against 27 in August, 16 being in the city, 19 in the suburbs, and 10 in the country districts. In July there were 15 cases of pneumonia. Diphtheria shows a decrease from 48 cases in' August to 43 last month, comprising 16 cases in the city, five in the suburbs, and "22 in the country. Of 23 cases of scarlet fever, as compared with 28 in August, 11 were in the city, 7 in the suburbs, and 5 in th« country. Fourteen cases of enteric fever > occurred, as against 21 in August and 42 in. July, 5 being in the city and suburbs, and 9in the country. There were 16 notifications of cases of tuberculosis, as compared with 24 in August, 10 being in the city, 4 in the suburbs, and two in the country. Five cases of the new disease, lethargic encephalitis, were notified, two being in the suburbs and three in the I country. In August, there was one case of this disease, and in July four. The remainder of the notifications comprise six cases of measles, five being in the city, and the other in the country, two cases of hydatids, and one case each of erysipelasl, puerperal septicaemia, cerebro-spinal-meningitis, poliomyelitis, and trachoma.
