ONEHUNGA-NEW PLYMOUTH SERVICE The Northern Company's steamer Rarawa, which has Deen running a tri-weekly service from Onehunga to New Plymouth, will only make two trips a week on that run from to-day. She will leave Onehunga on Mondays and Thursdays, and New Plymouth on Tuesdays and Fridays. THE AYRSHIRE. The Federal - Shire steamer Ayrshire, en route from England to Auckland, via Southern ports, arrived at Wellington from Lyttelton yesterday. African Company advises that the Masula is to load in New Zealand and Australia for Boston and New York. The vessel will load at Lyttelton, Timaru, and Dunedin, and will leave Timaru about October 4 for Port Pirie. From there she will go to Sydney, sailing finally from the latter port. THE TAINUI INQUIRY. The Marine Department has instructed Captain Wilcox, Assistant Government Superintendent of Mercantile Marine a» Lyttelton, to arrange for a magisterial inquiry to be held al that port concerning the disaster to the coastal steamer Tainui. As Lyttelton was the vessel's last port of departure most of the evidence will be available there. Captain Marciel, Superintendent of Mercantile Marine at Lyttelton, is on holiday leave. THE WAIPARA. Panama was cleared ten days after- Fine weather was experienced until about 500 miles from New Zealand, when she experienced a strong south-west gate and high seas, which decayed her considerably. Sue has about 5000 tons of genera! cargo from Montreal, and of that amount 14U0 tons will be discharged at Auckland. The balance of the cargo is for Auckland, 'Wellington, Lyttelton, Melbourne and Sydney. She has come, to New Zealand under the agency of the New Zea.and Shipping Company. The Waipara is one ot the three cadet ships of the British India Company, the other two are the Carpentaria and the new jteamer Wangaratta. The Waipara has a crew of 112 all told, and of these 34 are cadets undergoing training to qualify them for officers. Prior to the war the Waipara was in the Ecnland-Australian emigrant trade, under contract to the Queensland Government When the war broke out she was utilised to carry foodstuffs from. Australia to England. In August, 1918, when bourn:! from Havre to England, silo was torpedoed off Southampton. The torpedo exploded near the bridge and blew a large hole in the vessel's side. She filled so rapidly that in four minutes the engineroom, stokehold and No. 3 hold were flooded- She was empty at the time and the bulkheads in the other hold withstood the strain and kept her afloat. Four ti.ee arrived from Southampton shortly after the attack and towed the vessel to port. She wag ten months out of commission undergoing repairs, and is now making her first voyage aftar her adventure.
