ITALIANS AND SLAVS.
ATTEMPT TO SEIZE TOWN. AMERICANS INTERVENE. (Received 2 a.m.) Beut«r. COPENHAGEN, Sept. 35According to the South Slav Correspondence Bureau a telegram received from Spalato, dated yesterday, states -that a Jugoslav detachment began to advance on the town of Trau, on the Dalmatian coast, which had been occupied by Italians, when an American destroyer entered the harbour to compel the retirement of the Italians to the demarcation line.. The inhabitants opened fire on the Italians, who hastily left. The Jugoslavs captured the Italian commander and three men in an armoured car.
In the meantime 200 American marines, with machine-guns landed and to«k over the armoured car and the prisoners, who were subsequently transferred to an Italian ship. ■ Servian troops arrived, and were enthusiastically welcomed. The Americans'handed over the town to the Jugoslav troops and re-em-barked. The American warship is staying in the harbour for a few days.
