EAST COAST RAILWAY.
PROGRESS NEAR ATHENREE
" FAIRLY SATISFACTORY."
The commissioner of the Auckland Rail ways League reports as to progress of railway works about Athenree, on the East Coast line, that at present the work is progressing fairly satisfactorily. There are about 50 men at work between Waihi and Athenree. Mr. Ross, the engineer, keeps a sharp eye to the portion of work above-named, and with more men he would soon have the train running between Waihi and Athenree. There are a number of small bridges to build on this length, and several of them, as far as the concrete work is concerned, are ready for the girders. A new gang of men is to start work between Athenree and Katikati so as to push on the formation, and allow for consolidation.
