DOMINION LADIES' TOURNAMENT.
WELLINGTON BEATS AUCKLAND.

CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. The New Zealand ladies' hockey tournament was continued to-day. Last night's rain made the ground very heavy. The most interesting match was that between Canterbury B and Manawatu. which was a hardfought contest. Canterbury winning by the narrow margin oi 1 goal to 0 shortly before the call of tune. Wanganui beat Nelson by 5 goals to 1 Wellington defeated Auckland by 4 goals to 1.
AUCKLAND V. WELLINGTON. [BY TELEQBAPH.— CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday. The ladies' hockey match between Wellington and Auckland opened w?lh. a strong attack by the Wellington forward division whicn carried play into Auckland's circle, but Miss Ayhng cleared. Miss Lang secured and centred smartly to Miss Vilkins, who succeeded in notching Wellington's first goal. Wellington again securec from the bully, and Miss Williams had a shot, which went wide Auckland retaliated, and a spell of up-and-down play followed. Miss Nordea put in a hot shot, and secured Auckland's first goal. The yellow and black forwards got going, and a combined rush ended in Miss Simon finding the net and increasing ♦Wellington's score. Auckland secured from the bully, and Wellington were forced to concede a corner, from which Miss Lang carried tho ball down the left wing and centred hard to Miss Williams. Miss Stevens defended the goal, and effected a save, and half-time blew with the score: Wellington 3; Auckland 1.
On resuming, Misses Luoena and Wilkins ■were prominent in a strong Wellington attack, but Miss Walters intercepted well, and was instrumental in transferring play into Wellington's circle, where Miss Ayling, who was playing a sterling game, fielded cleverly and cleared. A strong Wellington attack was spoilt by the forwards getting offside. Wellington came again, and Miss Walters was again prominent in defence, but Wellington returned, and Miss Mariß-Clark cut in and defended well; but shortly after the Wellington vanguard got through the defence, and Miss Simon scored. Wellington continued to press hard, and the Auckland backs had a busy time. Eventually the northern forwards secured, and Wellington were put upon the defensive. Good play by Miss Ayling again relieved Miss Lang secured, and, going into the circle, had a shot, a corner resulting. Wellington continued to attack, but good defence by Miss Maris-Clark took the ba! out of immediate danger. Again Auckland pressed, and Mils Stevens was called on and cleared. Wellington returned, and Auckland gave two corners in quick succession From the second corner Auckland attacked strongly in a vain attempt to reduce th© score, and the whistle blew with play in Wellington's territory and the score: Wellington, 4; Auckland.
