STEAM YACHT WRECKED

OFF COAST OF ALASKA.

CREW STRANDED ON ISLAND.

Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 8 p.m.) VANCOUVER, Sept. 23.

A message from Nome, in Alaska, states that six survivors have arrived there from the steam yacht Casco, 4594 tons, which had been engaged in a treasure-hunting expedition north of Nome. The vessel was wrecked during a hurricane. The remainder of the crew took refuge on King Island, and are awaiting help. The Casco was the yacht chartered by Robert Louis Stevenson for his voyage among the South Sea Islands.

The Casco was chartered by Robert Louie Stevenson in June, 1888. He started from San Francisco on June 28 on what was intended to be only a pleasure excursion, but he never again left the waters of the Pacific. On the Casco Stevenson visited the Marquesas, Tahiti, Honolulu, the leper settlement at Molokai, and Samoa.
