BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH.

DECISIONS OF THE COUNCIL.

The Birkenhead Borough Council met last evening. Present : The Mayor, Mr. J. P. McPhail, Messrs. R. Taylor. A Hadfield. J. R. McPhail, H. Boardman, P. C. Backhouse. A. E. Wood, E. C. Walton, and E. G. Skeates.

A letter from the Northcote School Committer, in further reference to the request for assistance toward improving the Birkenhead school grounds, was " received." Members denied being unsympathetic. The opinion was expressed that if the committee postponed taking steps to urge the securing of additional playground space until the present grounds were put in order, the council should approach the Education authorities to this end.

The Mayor and Mr. Walton were appointed to represent the council at the conference next Tuesday afternoon, convened by the Takapuna Council to discuss the question of water supply as affecting the North Shore districts.

As the outcome of a communication from the Birkenhead and Northcote Gas Company relative to the conservation of the coal supply, it was decided to request the member for the district, Mr. A. Harris, to urge the Government to introduce the daylight saying system.
