NORMAL TRAIN SERVICES.

RESUMPTION NEXT WEEK. STATEMENT BY MR. MASSEY. POSITION MUCH IMPROVED. GOODS RESTRICTIONS EASED. [BY telegraph.—press ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Saturday. An announcement that normal train services, as prior to July 2, will be resumed on Monday, September 29, was made by the Prime Minister to-day. "The position in connection with the railway services has now improved sufficiently." said Mr. Massey, "to enable the full ordinary time-table to be resumed as from Monday, September 29.

"The goods service restrictions are being eased next week, with a view to clearing all accumulated goods traffic before the ordinary passenger services are installed."

Mr. Massey pointed out that three express trains would commence running on all the main lines on Monday; but on Monday week it was hoped to resume the normal traffic on all branches. EFFECT OF THE CHANGE. WAR TIME-TABLE RESTORED.

DAILY EXPRESS TRAINS.

The time-table which will come into force on Monday next will be the same as that which was in operation prior to July 2 last, when the drastic cut, rendered necessary by the shortage of coal, was introduced.

I An express will leave Auckland for Weli lington at 7.10 o'clock each evening, except on Saturdays. An express will leave Auckland for Thames, Rotorua, Waihi Taumarunui and Cambridge at 9.15 a.m. daily, and a train will be despatched to Urankton at 3.45 p.m. daily. An express will arrive from Wellington daily at 6.38 a.m., except on Mondays. A train from Rotorua, Taumarunui, Cambridge, and Thames will reach Auckland at 5 p.m. daily, and another train, leaving Franktou at 9.45 a.m., will arrive at Auckland at 2.40 p.m. daily. On the Kaipara line, in addition to the suburban trains, which will be increased, there will be trains at 7.20 a.m. and 3.50 p.m. to Helensville, and a train from Helensville to WeMsford at 10.50 a.m. The time-table which will be resumed next week will not be that existing prior to the war and during the first part of the war, but the "staff-saving" war timetable which was introduced in May, 1917. The reason given for this curtailment, which involved a reduction equal to about a third of the normal time-table, was the necessity for freeing as many men as possible for military service. One of the reductions was the taking off of the second Main Trunk express.
