HIGH COST OF COAL.
GAS COMPANY'S PURCHASE. [BY telegraph.—press association.] WELLINGTON, Friday. There does not seem to be much prospect of any immediate reduction in I the cost of coal, judging from the position of the Wellington Gas Company. In order to secure a continuance of the gas supply the company has just purchased a cargo of 3000 tons at an increased cost of £4500 on the present price of New Ztaland coal were the latter obtainable .
