PERSIAN FRONTIER FIGHT. COSSACKS DESERT KOLTCHAK DENIKIN STILL ADVANCING. By Telegraph-Press Association—Copyright. (Received 10 p.m.) A. and N.Z. LONDON. Sept. 18. Bolshevik forces were severely defeated east of Goek Tepe, near the northern frontier of Persia,, The Bolsheviks are hurriedly evacuating Askabad. Admiral Koltchak's southern army has suffered through desertions of the Orenburg Cossacks to the enemy. The Cossacks deserted rather than leave their native land. The Bolsheviks claim 45,000 deserters. Owing to,the enforced retreat of the southern army, the Bolsheviks have opened communication between Russia and Turkestan, thus securing a plentiful supply of foodstuffs. General Denikin continues his successes in South Russia. General Wrangel has regained the initiative before Tsaritsin, and the Bolsheviks have been forced to retire 30 miles, losing many prisoners.
Goek Tepe and Askabad are Russian towns on the Trans-Caspian railway, a few miles north of the Persian frontier.
