VATICAN AS TRUSTEE.
DEPOSITS DURING THE WAR.
LARGE REVENUE FROM RENTS A. and N.Z. ROME, Sept. 18. During the war many important personages in various belligerent countries deposited gold, jewels, end securities with the Vatican in order to guard against seizure after the war. German and Austrian securities were especially numerous.
Since the armistice the Vatican has charged ad valorem rent, and it is understood that the rent has supported the Vatican's expenses arising from the war.
