MEAT PRESERVERS' DISPUTE.
A PARTIAL SETTLEMENT.
■ A partial settlement in the Auckland abattoirs assiet<mts and freezing employees' dispute regarding hours and wages for meat-preservers was reached yesterday by a Conciliation Council, over •vbich the conciliation commissioner, Mr. T. Harle Giles, presided.
The hours of work are to be 44 a week. Eight hours are to be worked on the "first five days and on Saturday four hours, with intervals for meals as at present. Overtime is to be paid at the rate of time and a-qnarter for the first two hours and tims and a-half thereafter.
Wages were fixed as follows :Boners, 2s an hoar; meat-preservers, Is lOd an hour; youths, under 16 years £1 5s a week, 16 to 17 years £1 10s a week, 17 to 18 £1 15s a week, 18 to 19 £2 a week, 19 to 20 £2 10 :. week. The wages of tinumiths, tin-washers, and cleaners are to hb referred to the Arbitration Court. The following holidays are to be observed :—New Year's Day and Che day following, Anniversary Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Labour Day, King's Birthday, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day.
The questions of accommodation, preference, and the term of the awerd are to be referred to the Arbitration Court.
A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Giles for his work in connection with the dispute.
