LORD JELLICOE'S VISIT.

ENTERTAINMENT OF SAILORS.

QUESTION OF SCHOOL HOLIDAYS. The final details in connection' With the entertainment of Admiral Viscount Jellicoe and the officers and crew of the battle-cruiser New Zealand, which is due here on Monday evening, are now being completed. An appeal is being made to citizens to individually entertain the men ..from the ship. It is suggested that inj vitations to dinner and to spend the evening should be given by residents to individual members of the crew or small parties, it being considered that the sailors would appreciate being received by citizens in this way even more than being entertained* at smoke concerts or luncheons. The secretary -to the Citizens' Committee, Mr. H. C. Tewsley, of the Chamber of Commerce, will be glad to receive the names and addresses of citizens who are willing to entertain the sailors in this way. The closing of the schools during the visit to Auckland of Admiral Jellicoe was discussed at a combined meeting of the excutives of the Primary School Committees' Association, the Headmasters' Association, and the New Zealand Educational Institute. Mr. C. H. Furness presided. It was unanimously agreed that the, attendance at school, especially in view of the near approach of the Michaelmas holidays, should be interrupted as little as possible, and that the. schools ehould only be closed for a function which was specially attractive to children. In order to secure uniformity in the matter, ' it was considered desirable that imme- \ diately the holding of any such function was determined, the day for closing the schools should be advertised. Further amounts have been donated to the citizens' fund for the entertainment of the crew of the battle-cruiser, bringing the total to date to £1446 The citizens' committee expresses the opinion that this amount will not be sufficient to meet all the needs which will arise during the time the visitors are in Auckland. A special appeal is made to residents of the city and country to make further donations in order to adequately entertain the men.
