THE MARSDEN SEAT. MMDERATE LABOUR CANDIDATE. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.} WHANOAREI, Wednesday. Mr. A. H. Curtis, who is contesting the Marsden seat as the "moderate Labour ■andidate," opened his election campaign last night at Hikurangi. In the course of his address he said he could not accept the extreme position of the Labour Party, and he claimed that his platform of moderate Labour would serve the real interests of Labour better, Mid go further." Challenged to point out what was extreme in the Labour Party, he replied :- - 1 regard the methods adopted, and some if the aims announced by leaders like Messrs. Semple and Eraser, as extreme, ind I am not prepared to .subscribe to them though I am heart and soul for Lalxiur, for the wage earners, and the producers.' Asked why Capital should have four "dips" int., the profit,, while the worker: only got one, Mr. Curtis declared that Capital and Labour were necessary t< each other and he could not accept tlu view that 'hey should have equal "dips.'
