PALMERSTON ESTATE CASE.
DISCUSSION BY COUNCIL. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN COBBBSPONDENT.
HAMILTON. Wednesday.
A meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council was held to-night, the Mayor, Mr. P. H. Watts, presiding.
The recent action in the Supreme Court in which the council was involved regarding the Palmerston Estate was discussed.
The council's solicitors, Messrs. Swarbrick and Swarbrick, wrote stating that the action had been settled out of court on terms advantageous to the council. Mr. J. McKinnon said, the council should push on with the work on the estate, and put themselves in the right in case of further litigation. After discussion, the matter was referred to the Works Committee. It was decided to give the Education Department a month's notice to vacate that portion of the Town Hall used for technical instruction classes, owing to the attitude of the Department in not allowing the council the use of the room when it required it for social purposes. The Mayor said this action might have the good effect of causing the Department to provide permanent accommodation for the classes.
It was decided to ask the Valuation Department to make a revaluation of the borough, as there had been no valuation since 1914.
