DISABLED SOLDIERS.
KING'S PLEA TO EMPLOYERS. 100,000 WITHOUT WORK. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 10 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 15 Newspapers give prominence to the King's proclamation regarding disabled soldiers. They say that there is a clear obligation on the part of all enjoying the blessings of a victorious peace to make acknowledgment to those who suffered on '■ their behalf. j The Royal proclamation charges employers to keep in their service as many disabled soldiers as their businesses will allow, not being held back by fear of inconvenience or loss but omitting nothing which will secure occupation for men whose lack of employment offends the general conscience. The proclamation urges employers to pledge themselves to employ disabled soldiers to a minimum proportion of 5 per cent, of their total workmen. Those carrying out the pledge will be inscribed on the King's national roll, entitling them to use the official device for a seal of honour. The King exhorts ministers of religion to read the proclamation in all chapels and churches. It is estimated that 100,000 disabled men are still unemployed. MANCHESTER DEPUTATION. TO MARCH TO LONDON. A. and N.Z. LONDON. Sept. 15-Twenty-eight unemployed demobilised soldiers are walking from Manchester to London to protest against the Government's apathy on the unemployment question. The Lord Mayor of Manchester witnessed the departure and wished the party " God speed."
