RETAIL FRUIT SALES
Sir, —ln most of the fruit shops in Auckland beautiful samples of fruit are exposed against the shop window for sale with the price marked thereon. But alas, after making a purchase and examining the contents of the bag of fruit, one is filled with disgust at the undersized, bruised, and -ripe assortment that greets one's eyes. This undesirable method of fruit selling is not confined to the heathen Chinee and Hindoo. I would suggest as a remedy tlmt an inspector be appointed for the purpose by the.Citv Council or Government, whose" duty*would be to see that the sample of fruit exposed should coincide with the fruit sold. No doubt if these shopkeepers were made to turn out their windows and sell the sample against tin- glass, the state of affairs abovtt-men-tioiied Mould soon be rectified. Hcapaj.
