Whangaroa County, I area !2dXX3O -acre*., population 797, has only 17,833 aerso in cultivation, and has 110,162 acres uncultivated and unused. Jtfokianga County, 512,824 acres, population 27a_, has 366,843 acres uncultivated. Bay of Islands County, area 542,720 acres, population 3589, has 458.524 acres moused. ! Whangarei, one of the best-settled i I counties northwards of Auckland, area j 572.160 acres, population 12.270, has I ! 348,607 acres unused. Hobsoa Countv, area 400,640 acres, population 6504, i has 283,977 acres unused. Otamatea County, area 283.520 acres, population 4042, has 181,602 acres unused. Waiteraata County, area 403,200 acres, population 23,400 (largely suburban), has 303,855 acres unused. According to these statistics, which are taken from the latest Government Blue j Book, there are nine counties to the north of Auckland with a total area of 3.892,880 acres, out of which only 1,057,367 acres are cultivated, leaving 2,835,523 acres unused and unproductive. According to the same statistics, there are in other counties of the Auckland Province, besides the areas just mentioned, 7,000.000 acres unused and unproductive, making a total of over 10,000,000 acres of land, including forest areas and reserves, in the Auckland Province alone, which has yet to be brought into productive use or under cultivation.
