FISHING AT HOTORUA.
GOOD SEASON EXPECTED.
VIEWS OF CONSERVATOR. [$% TELEGRAPH.— CORRESPONDENT.] ROTOBTJA, Monday. In a statement to-day Mr. F. Moorhouse, Conservator of Inland Fisheries, said he considered the 'coming ■ fishing season at Rotorua would be better than these experienced for some years.
As proof of this, he mentioned that during the recent trapping of trout at the Fairy Spring, for the purpose of stocking the ornamental ponds in the Government Gardens, the majority of the fish taken were found to be too large to be transferred with safety. •
,An expert in pisiculture is at present in Rotorua, making investigations with a view to the improvement of the fisheries in the district^ The following consignments of trout ova and fry have been sent out from the Government hatchery of Rotorua this season : —Ova : Masterton, 200,000 ; Waikaremoana, 350,000; Napier, 100,000; Ohiwa, 250,000; DargaviHe, 25,000; Sydney, 300,000; Whangarei, 250,000; Gisborne, 20,000. Pry: Government Tourist Department, 167,000, liberated as follows:— 16,000; Blue Lake, 6000: Whakatane, 45,000; Tikitapu, 10,000; Atiamuri, 32,000; Tabunatara, 32,000-; and 26,000 in small lots. The Auckland Acclimatisation Society ordered 500000, but is at present unable to take delivery, owing to the restricted railway service. Two hundred thousand were sent to the Tongar'. National Park, 15,000 to Te Puke, and 5000 to. Tauranga. Word ha* been received that the ova forwarded to Sydney arrived in satisfactory condition.
