FIRE IN STORAGE SHED.

FREEMAN'S BAY OUTBREAK.

SERIOUS DAMAGE AVERTED,

An outbreak of fire occurred shortly after 11.30 last night in a brick shed, situated at the end of Customs Street West, near the Freeman's Bay waterfront. The alarm was answered by the City Fire Brigade, and the dama-ge was confined to a minimum by the prompt extinguishing of the flames. It was not known lu»t night who owned the shed, which apparently was in use as a storehouse, containing tin.-, sacks, and a quantity of carbide. There was no indication y*s to how the outbreak occurred, but it is thought the carbide becoming wet produced gas. The shed is bounded on each side by stacks of timber, the property of various timber merchants, and in the opinion of the superintendent of the fire brigade, the Acme* were extinguished just in time to avert a serious fire.
