SOCIALISM AND CHRISTIANITY.

Sir,—l regret that Mr. Wesley Richards has seen fit to use my name, in his letter of the 6th inst. The Kingsland branch of the New Zealand Labour Party presented me v;th a book ent.tled " International War; Its Causes and Its Cure." b\ Oscar Crosby—not a copy of Ingersoll's works, as he states. In my opinion. Mr. Richards should he the last man to complain that the New Zealand Labour Party is antiChristian. Let us examine the treatment that has been meted out. to Mr. Richards. He was selected in a plebiscite ba'.uv to be the Labour Party's official candidate for the Eden seat against Mr. Parr. He was also elected secretary of the Auckland General Labourers' Union. He was supported by Labour in the municipal »!ect on of 1917, to say nothing of the times that lie. along with others, have been selected to represent Labour at various congresses, etc. All this time the Labour people knew that Mr. Richards was a Christian man. He was supported because of his politics, not on account of his religion. The Labour people respect everybody's religious beliefs. Mr. Richards' included. Frank Lanustone. Tauma-runui, September 9, 1919.
