CASES DURING AUGUST.

v COMPARISONS WITH JULY. The total number of cases of infectious diseases, exclusive of influenza, "'notified in the Auckland health district daring the month of August, was 160. Thisiumber shows an increase of five as compared with the previous month. There were 48 cases of diphtheria in August, as against 51 in July, -21 being in , the city, 12 in the suburbs, and' 15 in the country districts. Scarlet fever, as compared with July, showed an increase from 17 to 28 cases, there being 13 cases in the country and .15 in the city and suburbs. Enteric fever showed a decline from 42 to 21, 12 patients being in the country and nine in the city and suburbs. There were 14 notifications of cases of tuberculosis from the city and suburbs and 10 from country districts, making a total of 34, as compared with 15 in July. Twenty-seven cases of pneumonia were notified, as against 15 in July, 22 of the notifications being from the city and suburbs, and five from the country. The remainder of the notifications comprised four each of puerperal septicaemia and erysipelas, two of cerebrospinal meningitis, one of measlee, and one of lethargicencephalitis.
