WOMEN WORKERS.
FEMALE INSPECTORS NEEDED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CO RUES POND EXT.] CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. After some discussion regarding the position of girls in banks, the Christchurch branch of the National Council of Women passed the following resolution last night : —" That, seeing some thousands of girls who might have married men who have given their lives in the war will be forced to earn their own living, no restrictions should be placed upon the girls regarding the manner of earning such living." The following remit from the Auckland Mothers' Union was endorsed —" That this branch urge 3 the National Council to represent to the Government the urgent need for the establishment of a home o? institution for the detention of young female offenders." The Auckland Tailoresses' Union of Industrial Workers forwarded the following remit, which was also endorsed — That in order to protect the interests of women workers in shops and factories, and for the better administration of laws passed for the protection of women and girl labour, it is imperative that women inspectors should be immediately appointed, with the same powers as male inspectors as regards prosecution in the case of (Serious and wilful disregard of the law. -
