' NOTES AND COMMENTS.
| A rather venturesome trip for this tune 'of the year was undertaken in the 20ft launch Active by Mr. D. Bassett, of the Victoria Cruising Club, .this week. The launch changed hands a few days ago, and Mr. Bassett ofiered to deliver her to her new owner at Mercury Bay. Accompanied by a friend a start was made for Mercury , Bay at 9.30 p.m. on Monday last. Tho weather was fairly good when the Active I left port, but at 3 a.m. on Tuesday she ran i into a strong north-west gale. Tie tide ' being on the flood a big sea was raised, and ; the little craft got a severe handling, and had to put into Port Jackson for shelter. She remained there for a couple of hours and resumed her voyage. The wind had then gone round to the south-west, and after plugging against it for nearly ten hours the Active reached Mercury Bay at. 3.80 on . Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Bassett returned to Auckland by stfeamer on Wednesday. The New Zealand Power-boat Association will hold its annual meeting and distribution of prizes on Wednesday, September 17. Nominations for officers and the committee must be lodged with the secretary, Mr. D. Ross, not later than Wednesday next, September 10. ... At a special general meeting of the Victoria Cruising Club on Wednesday night it was decided that the annual subscription for the 1919-20 season be the same as last season, viz., 2a 6d, The yacht La dye Wihna was hauled up . at Devonport a few days ago, and her new owners have commenced work on her. It is proposed to carry out extensive altera - ; tions to her cabin and inside fittings genj erally. ' Mr. T. Henderson, the veteran yachtsman. 1 who recently sold the 26-footer Bluostreak, sailed 840 miles in her last season. He has attained the age of 70 years, and his crew of four were boys, the eldest being only 17 years. Mr. Henderson has now purchased a 10ft sailing dinghy, and has already been out for a- trip in her. Mr. Chas. Court, formerly owner" of the I well-known launch Gladys, has placed an ! order with a local firm for a 45ft by 10ft ' launch. She will be a very up-to-date craft, • and will have sleeping accommodation for , -six per sous forward and four aft. i J " A', t , ol!ow ? y „ is also having a new 43ft by 10ft launch built to replace the Manu. She is expected to take the water nest month, and will have a 50-horse cower . engine. 1 c - If y? as purchased the 38ft launch i Mollie, and is having the cabin top raised so as to give her more headroom. Mr Leyß owned the launch Petrel for many years and afterwards sold her. The well-known launch Ansae, jwned by , Mr. A, Burt, inn., will not be seen afloat ■ this season owing to her owner's departure 1 for England.
