UNMASKING SOCIALISTS.
Sir, —I' am pleased Mr. Mcßrine and " S.AY.S." have opened the way for me 1 to further enlighten the public in regard to professed Sociaiis.Tii and the tactics of its supporters." Mr. Mcßrine quotes the dictionary in support of the economic aspect of Socialism, which is not in question. The issue is : Is Socialism ; antiChristian and immoral T My contention is that Socialism is more anti-Chi'stian. than anything else® I believe then; are two great forces at work in the world, the Spirit of Christ, and the spirit of antiChrist. My study and experience has convinced me that the spirit of anti-Christ, denial of God the Father and Christ the Son, have been incarnated in the socialist labour movement to a degree which words cannot express. Social.stic authorities can •be quoted ad infinitum in support, bat after all that might be written there is the spirit, that vibrates through socialistic activities that cannot be explained by . words. This can be '.earned only by ex- ' perience. With regard to' the charge of i" wrenching statements from their con- ' text," contexts doubtless are usof'il to explain obscure statements, but, there are some things which defy explanation, meanings being confined to the words in which . the ideas are embodied, such as " two and | two make four." The pub.ic may judge i whether contexts could give" any other | meanings to the quotations contained in j my. article than what is self-evident in ! them all. For example: '"Karl Kautsky's 5 most- important conclusion is directed • against Christianity, that is all belief >n ! God or immortality." Then Mr. Mcßrine ' complains that the Labour news was 'quoted "unfairly and inaccurately;" and, again, I am prepared to let readers judge whether any context could alter the mean- ! ing of the words : " Too long have we ; allowed the other side to tc-ch the children there is a happy tand i.ar far •'away. . .-. The far-away business is i rather played out." I thank Mr. Mcßrine for correcting my mistake in saying that the editor of the Labour News "officiated at a funeral." It should have been the secretary of the Auckland Labour Representation Committee, who was editor of the Labour News, and who recently has; been appointed secretary of the New Zea - land Labour Party. Let- u?,note. that ii -was as secretary of the L.R.C. that the burial service was conducted. One wonders jif unions and other bodies affiliated to the L.E.C. were approached as to whether I atheistical burial services could be con- | ducted under their auspices. The usual argument is used to support the " liberaI tion" ideas of Socialists for women. Readers will judge whether any women in. Auckland need sell their honour in order to live ; yet we have them doing so. A word to " S.W.S." He says Mr. Balfour and Viscount Morley are agnostics, a.nd | because of their attachment to a Liberal or ! Tory political party those parties are not | agnostic. This is a stock argument, the hollowness of which is carried on its face. : These parties are political parties only, '] So far as I am aware, there has not been one article in a newspaper, much less a book, written by either a " Tory or a Liberal," to say that " Toryism or Liberalism" was anti-Christian, while, almost without exception, the representative writers of aliism in all countries pro- . claim for the overthrow of Christianity. " S.W.S." further says Robert IngersoJ! "championed cap'talism and was as hitter an opponent of Christianity as any Socialist that ever lived " Is this latter the reason why " Comrade Frank Tangstone. late president of the Auckland central branch ox the New Zealand Labour Party and the pioneer of tho Kingsland branch of the Labour Party, was presented with a copy of Incersoll s work* b\ the Kin island branch on leaving for Tanmarunui?" We shall cone fide that, it was. for we do not expect for or.? moment that it was because " Ingersoil championed capitalism." If I want to know the principles of Christianity I consult the four evangelists. In like manner I have appealed to the world's representative Socialists for information on the matters treated in mine of August 25, and hav<» found the overwhelming consensus ©i opinion to be as I have stated*; - ; Wesuet'CJ.
