SIR E. CARSON IN ULSTER
IRELAND'S ALTERNATSVE.
SINN FEIN OR UNION.
A. Amd N.Z. LONDON. Sept. 3. ! Sir Edward Carson, in an address to the Ulster Unionist Council, said Sinn Fein was the only alternative to union. Ulster desired a peaceful settlement, but he did not see the elements of settlement. He urged a revival of the political clubs and the expansion of the Orange order. No contraband was found aboard the Hampshire Coast, which was arrested by destroyers and taken to Cork. Four other suspected vessels have been arrested at sea and taken to Irish ports. A sergeant and a constable were patrolling at Lorrha last night. The sergeant was shot dead. The assassin escaped.
