ACCIDENT AT ELLERSLIE.

STEEPLECHASER KILLED.

JOCKEY'S COLLARBONE BROKEN.

An accident at Ellerslie racecourse yesterday resulted in the steeplechaser Cinema being killed and his rider, COwen, sustaining a broken collarbone. Cinema was being schooled in company over the steeplechase course, when he struck the first fence of the double in front of the grandstand. The impact was so great that he fell and broke his neck. Owen was attended to by Dr. Grant, and is making satisfactory progress. Cinema, who was owned by Mrs. Cxrierson, was regarded as a first-nighter on the hunting field, and was receiving a preparation to compete at the Pakuranga Hunt Club's meeting at Ellerslie on Saturday, September 13.
